Strong quarter for the Swiss DIY trade

Swiss DIY stores grew in the third quarter compared to the same period last year by 15.8 per cent to sales of around CHF 940 mio (EUR 870 mio). Over a comparable area, they achieved an increase of 15.7 per cent. These figures have been published by the German industry association BHB. Unlike their neighbours Germany and Austria, the third quarter showed the strongest growth this year.
After a double-digit sales decline in the first quarter (-12.9 per cent) and a plus of 14.4 per cent in the second, the first nine months in total resulted in a sales growth of 7.4 per cent to CHF 2.76 bn (EUR 2.55 bn); like-for-like growth amounted to 7.4 per cent as well.
In Switzerland, the product group "other" grew in the three-quarterly comparison by 29.3 per cent. Also well ahead: classic construction elements (plus 16.1 per cent) and garden equipment (16.0 per cent). Four assortment ranges showed negative rates; at -5.5 per cent, the automotive assortment performed the worst.
