With double-digit sales growth, the DIY and flowers category in the German online retail sector recorded a growth rate in the second quarter that was twice that of the e-commerce goods sector as a whole. Compared with the same period last year, the category grew by 10.9 per cent to a turnover of EUR 1.176 bn. Only the drugstore category (11.7 per cent) and, at a lower level, the medicines category (13.9 per cent) grew more strongly. Total e-commerce turnover for goods rose by just 5.1 per cent. These figures were published by the German E-Commerce and Mail Order Association (BEVH).
Meanwhile, neighbouring product groups fared worse. This is most striking in the relatively large category of furniture, lighting and home décor, which, at EUR 1.366 bn, actually saw a 2.1 per cent decline in turnover.
