Following the abolition of the EUR 150 duty-free threshold for parcels sent to the European Union, the major Asian platforms are losing significant market share in the German e-commerce sector. This has been highlighted by the German E-Commerce Association (BEVH), which has analysed the figures for the third quarter.
With the removal of the EUR 150 duty-free threshold in July this year, all consignments from third countries into the EU are now, in principle, subject to customs duties. For small consignments up to EUR 150, a flat-rate charge of EUR 3 per product group (customs heading) applies. From November, a flat-rate processing fee of EUR 2 will also be added.
This is putting Asian platforms under significant pressure. Turnover for Shein, Temu and Ali Express in the third quarter slumped by 35.5 per cent compared with the same period last year, falling to EUR 566 mio. The market share…
