The decline in sales at DIY stores in Germany continued in 2025. Total sales in the DIY sector fell by 1.6 per cent compared to the previous year to a volume of EUR 20.58 bn. Adjusted for floor space, the decline was 1.4 per cent. The trade association BHB announced these figures today at a press conference during the International Hardware Fair in Cologne.

"These are certainly not positive figures, and there is no way to sugarcoat them," said Peter Abraham, spokesperson for the BHB Executive Board and Head of Retail at Eurobaustoff. "But when we look at the overall data, we've got off lightly," he said, assessing the results of the GfK Total Store Report published by the BHB. He was referring to consumers' continued reluctance to spend. "This slowed down sales again last year," said Abraham.
