Tesa has been awarded the top grade of A by CDP for its climate protection commitment. Every year, the non-profit organisation assesses how companies reduce their emissions, manage climate risks and implement their climate strategy. The A rating recognises the adhesive tape manufacturer's efforts in the area of climate protection and the implementation of its ‘We do’ sustainability strategy, which aims to achieve climate-neutral production by 2030.
‘In the measures we are taking as part of our sustainability strategy, we are focusing on reducing and avoiding emissions. This transformation strengthens our competitiveness, supports our customers in achieving their sustainability goals, promotes innovation and makes us less dependent on fossil fuels,’ explains Chief Technology Officer Dr Ingrid Sebald.
The company's energy strategy is based on three pillars: reducing energy consumption, transforming to renewable energies, and producing its own energy. In addition, the switch to solvent-free production processes is intended to reduce emissions as well as energy consumption. By using AI-supported energy management systems, the company is also optimising its production processes and increasing energy efficiency.
According to its own figures, Tesa has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 39 per cent since 2018. Ninety per cent of its global electricity requirements are now covered by renewable energies. In addition, the adhesive specialist produces a growing proportion of its own energy – for example, through photovoltaic systems at its production sites.
Tesa is investing around £270 million in the sustainable transformation of its business by 2030. These investments are being channelled into modern technologies, renewable energies and new production processes such as e-boilers for steam generation without fossil fuels or heat pumps for efficient and more sustainable heat supply at its sites.
