Independent garden centres in Germany turned over 8 per cent less last year than in 2021, although the latter was, however, a record year. Overall, the smaller businesses did better than the larger ones. This was the finding of a representative survey by the Association of German Garden Centres.

Compared with the pre-Covid year 2019, nominal turnover has risen by a good 10 per cent. Adjusted for prices, however, it is at the same level as in 2019. Customer frequency has fallen by 2 per cent compared with 2021, while the average till receipt declined by 6.3 per cent to 37.91 euros. Against the background of the general conditions, the association considers the trend in 2021 to be moderate: it couldn't be said that there was a crisis.
