The French DIY store chain Leroy Merlin did not take place in Black Friday this year. "Black Friday encourages overconsumption," was the reason given for this move by Alexandre Laubie, commercial policy director, while explicitly stating that this was not a boycott. The company instead favours a new circular economy with concepts such as loaning, leasing and subscription, as well as reparability and giving products a second life to conserve resources. Black Friday, on the other hand, had a serious environmental and social impact, according to Leroy Merlin.
