Yesterday, 6 October 2020, the Global DIY Network launched its online programme with an introductory presentation by Ken Hughes. Not surprisingly, consumer expert Hughes focused in his talk on the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic for consumer behaviour and thus for the retail trade, entitling his presentation "The captive economy". He said that the experience of Covid-19 had shown four values to be especially important to the consumer: freedom and autonomy, attachment, community and digital "step-jump". According to Hughes, retailers must now consider how they can offer something relating to these values to their customers with their products and services.
