Strongest drop in UK retail sector for ten years

28.06.2019

In June, retail sales volumes in the UK fell at their fastest pace since March 2009, i.e. during the financial crisis. The hardware and DIY sector is among the categories with the strongest declines. This is according to a survey by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI). It states that the business has been impacted by the relatively cooler weather compared with this point last year.
The only sector to see rising sales this month was Internet and mail order retailers. But even their sales recorded the weakest growth since 2009, namely only 3 per cent (after 38 per cent in May).
