The UK home improvement multiples market was worth around GBP 7.2bn in value terms (retail selling prices) in 2015, following an increase of around four per cent in 2015. Overall market conditions have improved in recent years following a period of falling incomes, rising household expenses and employment insecurities, with sales in the home improvement multiples sector having increased steadily since 2012. However, British market research company Ama expects that growth rates will fall from 2016 onwards on account of the Brexit decision and also the trend away from DIY towards using tradesmen.
Over 20 per cent of sales in DIY stores are accounted for by the garden, domestic landscaping and leisure segments. The "Home Improvement Multiples Market Report - UK 2016-2020 Analysis" for the sector generally predicts even fiercer price competition, with continued growth in own brand sales.
