Obi confirms takeover of Baumax stores

Obi has now officially confirmed what has already been reported for quite some time: Germany's biggest DIY operator is taking over some stores from Baumax, previously the market leader in Austria, as well as some locations in Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Obi has been active in Austria since 1996. As well as the existing 33 Obi stores in Austria, 49 are being added as a result of the acquisition. Obi is renting the property where the stores are located and taking over all the 2 450 employees currently working there. In addition to the locations in Austria, two stores in Slovenia, four in the Czech Republic and 14 in Slovakia are also being added to the list of stores. Obi is also taking over all the 1 100 employees here too.
