The marketing cooperative Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer has seen its sales increase by two per cent. Discounters represent an increasingly significant marketing channel

Last year Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer of the Netherlands increased sales by 2.1 per cent to € 1.63 bn. The segment covering houseplants and garden plants experienced a disproportionately high increase of three per cent to € 1.009 bn. The marketing cooperative puts its market share at 45 per cent. Around 22 mio flowers and plants from 6 000 horticultural enterprises in the Netherlands and other producer countries are bought and sold every day.
The company rates discounters as increasingly significant when it comes to selling flowers and plants. Shoppers in these stores frequently tend to buy flowers and plants for themselves.
