Logistics à la française

The global logistics provider’s industry-specific solution, Dachser DIY Logistics, is also tailored to the needs of the French market and its links to international growth regions.

France is one of the key markets in the European home improvement sector and, at the same time, places high demands on logistics processes: short delivery times, high delivery reliability and the safe handling of extensive and, in some cases, sensitive product groups characterise the market environment, as Dachser is well aware. “It is precisely against this backdrop that integrated logistics solutions play a crucial role,” emphasises Patrick Schwab, Department Head of Dachser DIY Logistics.

With Dachser DIY Logistics, the company offers an industry-specific solution tailored specifically to the requirements of manufacturers and retailers in the home improvement sector. Within its own European general cargo network, around 10.3 million consignments are handled annually as part of this industry solution, with deliveries made to around 18,000 branches and end customers every day.

The logistics service provider is convinced that this network really comes into its own in France. The country is closely integrated into European transport networks and benefits from coordinated transport processes, whilst the consolidation of consignments and goods flows enables efficient use of capacity and predictable transit times. At the same time, France plays an important role in connecting to neighbouring growth regions such as the Maghreb.

Another key focus is on supporting omnichannel strategies. By linking deliveries to brick-and-mortar branches with the requirements of online retail, Dachser DIY Logistics aims to enable a seamless, structured supply of goods. Supplementary services at the point of sale help to optimise retail processes and increase stock availability. At the same time, Schwab emphasises that even complex requirements – such as those involving bulky goods or hazardous materials – are reliably met.

When it comes to sustainability, too, Dachser’s network is tailored to the requirements of the French market. This includes the use of alternative propulsion technologies, the development of appropriate infrastructure within the network, and the continuous monitoring of emissions from transport processes.

Through close coordination between central units and local teams of experts, market requirements and operational developments are considered holistically – taking into account market analyses and regional sustainability guidelines. “This enables us to provide consistent support to internationally active customers and to implement standardised solutions whilst taking local specificities into account,” explains Schwab.

“The combination of an efficient network, standardised processes and specific industry expertise forms the basis for stable and transparent supply chains,” he emphasises.
