Western European companies dominate Europe's DIY market

The European DIY market continues to be dominated by the two heavyweights Groupe Adeo from France and Kingfisher from the UK. At the end of 2020, their combined net sales of EUR 21.7 billion and EUR 13.8 billion were more than equal to those of all eight of the following DIY retailers in Europe. Behind the two top dogs come the three German operators Obi, Bauhaus and Hornbach, themselves leaders in their national market in Germany and also present in several countries in Europe. In 6th place at the end of 2020 came the Dutch Stark Group, which, unlike the aforementioned groups, has its main focus on the building materials sector in Europe.
