DIY, gardening and pets on the decline in Germany in 2025

The DIY and gardening trade in Germany ended 2025 with a decline in sales. This is according to preliminary figures published by the German statistics authority (Statistisches Bundesamt/Destatis). For the DIY sector, which includes hardware, paints and building and home improvement supplies, the statistics show a decline of 0.7 per cent in nominal terms and 1.1 per cent in real terms.

The trade sector for plants and gardening supplies is grouped together with pet supplies in the official statistics. According to the preliminary results, it recorded a nominal decline of 1.1 per cent in sales last year. In real terms, sales in the gardening and pet supplies trade fell by 2.7 per cent compared with the previous year.
