The Europe-wide launch of Great Stuff, a range of polyurethane (PU) foams, is permitting the Dow Chemical Company, one of the biggest chemical concerns in the world with sales of approx. $ US 28 bn, to further expand its Dow Polyurethane Systems division in Europe.
Great Stuff is the undisputed market leader on the home market in the USA, where it is listed by all the major DIY chains (including Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware and Tru Serve) and has a 65 per cent share of the market for assembly foams. Dow fully intends to establish the Great Stuff brand in a leading position in the DIY and professional segment by means of adapting the range to the European market and producing it in Europe.
Great Stuff and Great Stuff Pro are Dow Chemical’s new PU foam ranges for the European market.
The range covers single-component PU foams of differing qualities, and includes a variety of applicators and pack sizes as well as accessory products. The PU foams are practically impermeable and airtight, will adhere to a variety of surfaces and can be further worked on after about 60 minutes. It is planned to expand the product lines in the course of the year 2002. “Our appearance at the fair in Cologne is the start of the PU foam business throughout Europe for us. It is our aim to attain a leading position in both the DIY and professional markets in Europe within five years by means of the Great Stuff brand,” explains Peter Mackey, commercial director consumer/building products Europe.
“To this end we are not simply bringing US products to Europe but are introducing a range that is tailored to European requirements, has been in part developed for Europe and is produced in Europe. Next in significance to us after Germany and the United Kingdom are France, Italy, Spain, the Benelux countries and Eastern Europe. We are confident that we can set quite something in motion here with a brand that is truly pan-European.”
Commercial director Peter Mackey intends Great Stuff to achieve market leadership in Europe within five years.
