The DIY and building materials sector in the US has started 2026 with an increase in turnover. In January and February, the sector generated sales of USD 66.448 bn (EUR 56.502 bn), an increase of 3.1 per cent compared with the first two months of the previous year. This is according to data from the US Census Bureau on retailers of building materials and garden supplies (NAICS 444, North American Industry Classification System).

The sector had ended the whole of 2025 with a decline in turnover. Official statistics show a total volume of USD 481.907 bn (EUR 409.780 bn). Compared with 2024, this represents a decrease of 1.3 per cent.
