Austrian skirting board and acoustic panel manufacturer FN Neuhofer has officially opened its new plant for extruded core skirting boards. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Governor of the Austrian province of Upper Austria, Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP).
The family-run company has invested around EUR 10 mio in the new site in Pöndorf, just a few kilometres from its headquarters in Zell am Moos. The new FN Xtru-Pro skirting board is manufactured there on two production lines. In total, FN Neuhofer invested around EUR 41 mio in new plants, equipment, technologies and staff during the 2025/2026 financial year.
The new plant is a milestone and “the third pillar in terms of product segments”, said managing partner Franz Neuhofer at the opening ceremony attended by around 200 guests, including numerous customers from abroad. Originally, FN Neuhofer was on the market with skirting boards; three years ago, acoustic panels were added, which now account for around 40 per cent of turnover. Capacity currently stands at 200 million running metres of skirting boards and 1.3 million acoustic panels per year. The new plant in Pöndorf can produce 12 million running metres of the new skirting boards per year. There are already plans to expand capacity.
The celebration was hosted by his daughter Victoria Neuhofer, who works for the company. Joining via video link were his son Alexander, who is part of the management team of the joint venture in the USA, and his daughter Sarah, who is currently studying in Sweden.
Referring to the company’s 376-year history, Neuhofer said: “I believe the next generation will manage this quite well too, so that we can continue to run the company and drive it forward at many locations around the globe – whether it’s Europe or the USA, or perhaps even Asia at some point. That’s still on my agenda too.” To highlight the company’s innovative strength, a humanoid robot was also brought onto the stage at the new plant. “This plant is not just a site,” said Victoria Neuhofer. “It is a statement.”
The new product manufactured in Pöndorf consists of a sturdy MDF core that is fully encased in polypropylene using a globally unique process developed by FN Neuhofer. During die-cutting, the extruded PP film remains completely intact.
