Systematic knee protection

With a restructured range comprising eleven models, Gebol aims to provide greater clarity in the knee protection sector from autumn 2026. A three-step system combines product selection, advice and product presentation at the point of sale.

Knee protection is one of those product ranges where technical differences are often difficult for users to distinguish at first glance. Yet the location of use, the surface and the duration of the strain determine which design and features are appropriate. Gebol has therefore completely reorganised the range. Eleven models cover a variety of activities, from laying flooring and paving to assembly work, as well as tasks around the home and garden.

Three selection criteria

The selection is based on three criteria, which are clearly visible on the product and on the packaging. Firstly, the labelling ‘Heavy’ or ‘Allround’ indicates the intended environment for each model. ‘Heavy’ stands for demanding work on hard and rough surfaces. ‘Allround’ denotes versatile solutions for varying tasks. Some models combine both profiles.

The second criterion is the level of protection. For models that have been tested accordingly, this is specified in accordance with the relevant parts of the EN 14404:2024 series of standards. ‘Level 0’ is intended for work on level ground and offers no tested puncture resistance. ‘Level 1’ is suitable for both level and uneven surfaces and meets defined puncture resistance requirements. ‘Level 2’ is designed for particularly demanding work on hard and uneven surfaces with increased requirements.

The third criterion is provided by the Gebol quality levels “Classic”, “Pro” and “Ultra”. These describe differences in materials, features, comfort and intended intensity of use.

“Classic” comprises functional and economical models for a wide range of applications. “Pro” is aimed primarily at tradespeople and specialist firms who regularly work on their knees. ‘Ultra’ stands for higher-quality materials, ergonomic details and more sophisticated padding and cushioning systems for intensive use.

The concept does not end with the product: Gebol applies the same logic to packaging, in-store displays and mobile secondary placements.

Tested in everyday working life

During development, Gebol collaborated with floor layers, tradespeople and specialist contractors. Feedback on fit, slip resistance, strap routing and pressure distribution has been incorporated into the product optimisation. Depending on the model, wide fastening straps, ergonomically shaped padding, durable outer shells, and gel and foam inserts are used. The features are tailored to the intended surface and the duration of use.

One example is the Gebol U-300: this Type 1, Level 2 model combines robust textile fabric with a shock-absorbing gel insert. A PP shell with slip-resistant TPR elements provides protection when working on hard and rough surfaces. The fold-away thigh strap and particularly wide, elastic fastening straps ensure a secure fit.

“We developed these products in collaboration with floor layers, plumbers and specialist contractors – in environments where knee protection has to deliver every single day. They showed us what really matters in day-to-day work and what turns a first-time buyer into a loyal user and fan. This expertise is incorporated into every single model,” emphasises Daniel Karl, Head of Digital Business & Marketing and Project Manager for Knee Protection at Gebol GmbH. For retailers, this means: “clear advice, high customer satisfaction, a low returns rate and a range that generates repeat business and is recommended by customers themselves.”

From product to sales system

The product range includes a coordinated POS concept. It applies the three-step system directly to the sales floor. The supplier promises that retail partners will benefit from shorter consultation processes, a clearer product range structure and a consistent brand image across shelves, secondary placements and digital channels. The wall display organises the models by area of use, protection level and quality grade. This is designed to allow the system to be grasped directly from the product itself. For additional visibility, a mobile secondary display is provided, which can be used independently of the shelf. Both solutions follow the same logic and provide a clear sequence for the sales consultation.

Orientation at the point of sale

The labelling also creates a consistent language for packaging, the sales floor and digital product information. This enables retail partners to explain the key differences more quickly and compare individual models more easily, explains Gebol. Product data and further information complement the guidance provided at the shelf. For range planning, the company offers solutions for different retail spaces and sales formats.

“Our particular strength begins at the POS,” emphasises CEO Markus Dulle. “From the initial consultation to the finished display, we develop a system in just a few hours that retailers can implement without any additional effort. This makes selling PPE easier and faster, whilst resources remain where they make the biggest difference: with the customer.” He is convinced this is already evident with knee pads and announces: “The next step will be work boots. In 2027, we will roll out POS Next Generation across the entire Gebol range.”
