The e-commerce segment recommerce increased its gross trading volume in Europe by 18 per cent to EUR 121 bn between 2024 and 2025. Marketplaces now account for 74 per cent of this, or around EUR 90 bn. This is according to the fifth edition of the study “Top 100 Cross-Border Sustainable Marketplaces in Europe”, presented by CB-Commerce with the support of Fed-Ex Express and Poste Italiane. According to the study, marketplaces play a central role in the development of the recommerce sector – a role that is even more significant than their contribution to broader cross-border e-commerce, where they account for 70 per cent of the volume.
The top 10 marketplaces in this report are Back Market, Etsy, OLX Group, Refurbed, Ebay, MPB, Vestiaire Collective, Sellpy, CeX, and Collector Square. By 2026, recommerce is expected to account for 14 per cent of the total online market volume in Europe.
