Last week's 11th Global DIY Summit in Lisbon was used to report on the current status of the “Make It Zero” initiative. Since last year, in which the Supplier Taskforce was launched, the membership of Make It Zero has grown from 13 member companies to 59 companies operating around the world.

“Make It Zero” is a sector initiative with the aim to reduce the industry's greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. It focuses in particular on Scope 3 emissions, which are generated by the supply chain and products. “To accelerate decarbonisation around the world, it is vital that the whole DIY industry comes together and fully embraces a collaborative approach: learning from each other and sharing best practice,” says a letter signed by EDRA/GHIN President Thierry Garnier, CEO of Kingfisher.

At last week's Global DIY-Summit, Thierry Garnier, HIMA President Reinhard Wolff and EDRA/GHIN General Secretary John W. Herbert, among Make It Zero members, expressly committed themselves to the initiative and the necessity of working towards this as a sector.

The key arguments for membership are that Scope 3 decarbonisation can be achieved more cost-effectively, quickly and easily by working together.

Further to this, the 11th Global DIY-Summit also saw the announcement and launch of the Make It Zero Scope 3 Training Academy. The Make It Zero Training Academy will act as the digital ecosystem for members of Make It Zero to educate their supply network in the importance of tracking and reducing carbon emissions.

“Make It Zero” is open to all interested companies. Further information is available at info@makeitzero.net.
