After a thoroughly negative first quarter, the garden and pet trade in Germany closed April with a slight increase, according to preliminary figures from the Statistisches Bundesamt (Federal Statistical Office). In nominal terms, sales were 3.2 percent higher than in the same quarter last year, while in real terms they rose by 1.1 percent.
The statistics authority does not currently publish separate figures for the gardening sector. The results quoted here refer to retail sales of flowers, plants, seeds, fertilizers, zoological supplies, and live animals.
