Comparable sales grew in May

The sales of Kesko Group's continuing operations in May 2018 totalled EUR 952.7 mio, representing an increase of 5.6 per cent in comparable terms. The reported sales from continuing operations decreased by 2.8 per cent.
"Kesko's sales grew in comparable terms in May in the grocery trade and in the building and technical trade. In the grocery trade, growth was particularly strong in the neighbourhood market," says Kesko's president and CEO Mikko Helander.Sales in the grocery trade totalled EUR 473.3 mio in May, an increase of 7.8 per cent in comparable terms. Sales grew in all chains. Reported sales in May grew by 4.6 per cent.
Sales in the building and technical trade totalled EUR 392.9 mio in May, an increase of 4.9 per cent in comparable terms in local currencies. Comparable sales in the building and technical trade, excluding the speciality goods trade, grew by 4.1 per cent in local currencies. Sales in Finland grew by 10.3 per cent, while sales elsewhere decreased by 1.1 per cent. Sales in the speciality goods' leisure trade increased by 3.0 per cent, while sales in the machinery trade grew by 24.4 per cent in comparable terms. The reported sales in the building and technical trade decreased by 10.7 per cent, and were impacted by the divestment of the K-maatalous business and the furniture trade in the second quarter of 2017.
Sales in the car trade totalled EUR 87.0 mio in May, and were at the previous year's level. In May 2018, the number of Kesko's wholesale selling days in Finland was 21, which is equal to the number of wholesale selling days the year before. January-May 2018 had one more selling day than the corresponding period in 2017.
