The Praktiker brand is back on the German market, not as a DIY store operator but as a price comparison website and community platform in the first instance. However, an online shop is expected to be launched before the end of the year at www.praktiker.de. The scope of the new online shop "will significantly surpass that of conventional DIY stores," say the operators.
The current website went live at the start of October with the slogan "We're back". 60 000 products are reported to be listed at the moment, which can be compared by means of 6 000 filter options and can then be ordered from online shops such as Amazon.de, Hagebau.de or Hellweg.de.
In addition to price comparisons, the website intends to offer free DIY instructions. A type of monthly reality DIY show is also being developed, in which a community can vote in online surveys on which projects are to be carried out by "Ivo, the Praktiker handyman".
The site is operated by Christoph Kilz and Dirk Oschmann, who have secured the brand rights. Both are experienced in the construction of online platforms. The German DIY chain Praktiker went bankrupt in 2013.
