Two more Japanese DIY store operators, Kohnan and Joyful Honda, have joined the Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN). Kohnan is one of the top five players in Japan. The company actively seeks to develop diversified business formats, operating 263 DIY stores and 50 pro-concept format stores, which have taken hold in Japan. It is also keen on developing private label products. Kohnan's reported sales (end: February 2015) are JPY 280 bn (approximately € 2.2 bn).
Joyful Honda operates fifteen home improvement stores around the outskirts of Tokyo. The retailer achieved consolidated sales for 2015 of JPY 162 351 mio (approximately € 1.29 bn). Founded in 1975, Joyful Honda seeks to provide customers with every single item of merchandise relating to the needs of their home. Last year, the number of the transactions conducted exceeded 52 million. Each of the company's stores operates on a huge site of around 15ha, sometimes called "Theme Park of Lifestyle".
Joyful Honda also currently has four subsidiaries: Smile Honda, which specialises in the home remodelling business, Honda Sangyo, which handles arts and crafts items, Joyful Athletic Club, which operates a members' athletics gym, and Joyful Shaken and Tire Center, which provides the mandatory vehicle inspection service for customers who drive their cars to visit the company's stores.
