Austrians still find Austrian DIY superstores the most congenial – at least if they are outlets belonging to the market leader. This emerges from a study published by Markant management consultants of Vienna. The results show that the domestic market leader, Baumax, achieves a sympathy rating of 42 per cent among the respondents, who go shopping in a DIY store at least every two to three years. Other Austrian companies are only to be found in low rankings. Following at second place are two German chains, Bauhaus and OBI, though well behind at 26 per cent each. Then the table continues with Raiffeisen-Lagerhaus, Hornbach, Öbau, Hagebau, Praktiker and Baufreund (Hellweg). The authors of the study claim that these figures correspond to the picture arising from an analysis of customer shares.
