Big players dominate retail area in Europe

At the end of 2020, the top four DIY operators by retail area in Europe, Groupe Adeo (France), Kingfisher (UK), Obi (Germany) and Bauhaus (Germany), accounted for 54 per cent of the total sales area among the top 20 companies in Europe. Furthermore, the top 8 operators accounted for 74 per cent of total retail space at the end of 2020, while the following twelve smaller operators shared only 26 per cent between them. In total, the top 20 European operators accounted for around 39 million m² of retail space at the end of 2020.
