Bergenco, which has its headquarters at Zwolle, was founded in 1970. Since that time it has progressed from being a one-man company dealing with the import of wood for the garden to become a manufacturer employing some 250 people. The Hillhout brand, under which a high-quality range of garden wood is sold today, was established in 1974. A second brand was added in 1988 when the company took over Holgard, a competitor at that time. Nowadays the Holgard line denotes a selection of moderately priced wood products for the garden that are all pressure impregnated. The range includes panels, fences, flower boxes, pergola kits, floor tiles, edgings and garden timber.
New for 2002 is the designer panel and one made of steel and wood.
The Hillhout range is positioned in the higher-value market segment and is much more comprehensive, including additional products such as garden furniture, pond bridges, garden lamps, gazebos, garden buildings and log cabins as well as play equipment and a garden decoration line consisting of cabinets, cupboards and furniture. Hillhout products that are designated “Excellent” are deemed to satisfy particularly high expectations in respect of both design and quality. All these products apart from the garden buildings and log cabins are pressure impregnated.
Every year Bergenco endeavours to introduce new products, such as the recently developed hardwood range and a line of products combining wood with aluminium. The development of new products is often effected in close cooperation with the company’s clients.
The Milano A chalet provides colourful accents.
A special storage rack known as “Hillhout Yellow Roofs” has been designed for orderly, clear presentation at the POS. Clients are furthermore offered in-store support in the shape of informative literature designed to stimulate sales of the company’s products to the ultimate consumer. This support includes the “Garden Inspiration Magazine”, a 100-page brochure in six languages that comes out once a year, and a variety of other brochures and leaflets dealing with the different products and ranges. Bergenco also offers support for individual or joint sales promotional activities.
Since 1977 the company has had a subsidiary in Germany and a sales office in the United Kingdom since 1987. The range of products is also sold through importers in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Austria, Belgium and Greece.
