DIY store sales grow significantly in Austria, but not in Switzerland

In Austria, the trade in DIY and garden assortments increased by 4.9 per cent to EUR 2.06 bn from January to September 2019. These details have been provided by BHB as association for the DIY trade in the German-speaking area. Sales drivers were in particular garden chemicals/soils/seeds (+9.8 per cent) as well as construction elements (+9.3 per cent). There were only sales declines in the assortment range "other", all remaining 21 product groups in the panel, which was gathered in cooperation with the market research company GfK, grew.

The growth curve remained flat in the first three quarters for Switzerland. Total gross sales in this period amounted to CHF 2.57 bn. The development of the industry remained below expectations with a change rate of +/- 0.0 per cent.
