The Turkish DIY chain Koçtaş has become a new member of the international DIY association Edra/Ghin. The company is a joint venture between the Turkish Koç Holding and the British DIY group Kingfisher. Founded in 1955 as a wholesale business, Koçtaş opened its first store in Bornova, İzmir, in 1996. With openings in Topçular, Antalya and Balçova, İzmir, the company began its retail expansion in 1998. The joint venture with Kingfisher has been in place since 2000. According to its own figures, it currently operates more than 100 stores in over 30 cities; in its latest annual report, Kingfisher cited 145 locations. Its portfolio comprises large-format stores and inner-city neighbourhood stores under the Koçtaş Fix brand.
