The Heimtextil trade fair started today in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) – with around 3,000 exhibitors from more than 140 different countries, as reported by trade fair managing director Detlef Braun at the opening press conference. He emphasised that the number of exhibiting companies is very stable compared to last year. Until 16 January, the industry will be presenting all topics related to textile interior design, such as wallpaper, carpets and home textiles.
Braun reported that in 2025, the industry was confronted with a complexity and abundance of challenges that he had never experienced before, adding: “In this environment, there is one value that is becoming increasingly important: reliability.” He is convinced that this is what Frankfurt offers – after all, Frankfurt has been known as a trade fair location for around 800 years and Messe Frankfurt has been in existence for over 100 years.
As in the previous year, a central meeting point at Heimtextil 2026 will be the trend installation ‘among-all’ by designer Patricia Urquiola. Her work is less about working towards a specific goal and more about a shared engagement with materials, she explained during the opening event. The presentation is intended as a place for interaction with the objects on display. The concept incorporates influences from artificial intelligence as well as reused materials from previous years' events and surplus materials from the textile production of partner companies.
