Cencosud generates 6.6 per cent less turnover with its DIY division in 2023

The Chilean retail group Cencosud generated net sales of CLP 1 644 bn (EUR 1.583 bn) with its home improvement division in 2023. This is a decrease of 6.6 per cent compared to the previous year. In Chile, sales fell by 11.2 per cent to CLP 757 bn. In Argentina, there was growth of 0.5 per cent to CLP 816 bn, although this was driven by inflation; in local currency, sales rose by 130.9 per cent. Sales in Colombia fell by 25.1 per cent, in local currency by 21.0 per cent to CLP 71 mio. This is shown in the annual report for the fourth quarter.

On a like-for-like basis, the rates of change are similar. In Chile it was -13.7 per cent, in Argentina 129.1 per cent and in Colombia -21.4 per cent.

In contrast, the division achieved a slight increase of 1.3 per cent in online business in its home market of Chile. The increase in Argentina was 191.3 per cent. In Colombia, on the other hand, online sales also fell by a double-digit figure of 24.8 per cent.

In all three countries, Cencosud operates in the home improvement market with the Easy DIY chain. In Argentina, the Blaisten sales line has been added.
