Bangladesh is officially the twelfth market of Malaysian home improvement chain Mr. DIY. The website of Mr. DIY Bangladesh has been linked to the landing page of the retailing group following its activation recently. This seals its status as the newest market for the Asian powerhouse and serves as confirmation that stores bearing the anthropomorphised hammer will soon start appearing in the country.

On Linkedin, officials of Mr. DIY Bangladesh are actively recruiting for personnel in preparation for the opening of its first outlet, set for March. Among the positions being advertised are for cashiers, sales promoters, and store assistants.

This comes after DIY International reported last October that Malaysia's iconic brand was quietly laying the groundwork for entering the market of 169.4 million people. At that time, Mr. DIY Bangladesh was on a hiring spree for leadership positions, and was setting up its online presence.

Bangladesh is Mr. DIY’s tenth Asian market and second South Asian market after India. It was expected to start operating in late 2023 after Mr. DIY officials had announced plans to tap two markets that year. However, the discounter only managed to open in one - Vietnam - that year, with the Bangladesh entry missing the target by a month.
