Obi wants to reach the EUR 10 bn sales mark in five years. This was stated by CEO Sebastian Gundel in the podcast on the German platform OMR. Last year, Germany's largest and Europe's third-largest DIY retailer generated total gross sales of around EUR 8.7 bn. In this context, Gundel is also explicitly relying on more franchising, after 20 years of not growing in franchising. "Franchising is definitely a part of our future strategy, because I firmly believe that we can achieve our goals in terms of growth ambitions better with partners than doing everything on our own," he said.

Gundel also emphasised the idea of working together in partnership with regard to the relationship with the industry. In principle, he said, the company wants to approach the issue in a spirit of partnership. "That's also how I envision working with our suppliers." When it comes to price increases, there are of course tensions, but that is quite normal. "As long as you conduct this fairly and transparently and on a rational basis, that's part of business," Gundel said.
