DIY stores in Italy increased their turnover by 9.1 per cent in 2021. The garden range grew the most, by 16.0 per cent, and now accounts for 11.5 per cent of total DIY store sales. The second strongest growth was achieved by the tools product group. This grew by 12.7 per cent, but only accounts for
5.8 per cent of sales. These figures were released by the market research company GfK in its Total Store Report, which refers to stores with retail areas of at least 800 m².
The product range with the second largest share of sales (16.4 per cent) after "others" with 30.0 per cent is sanitary ware, which increased by 8.9 per cent. Building materials, which have the third largest share (14.0 per cent), recorded the lowest growth with an increase of 1.7 per cent.
In 2020, sector turnover in the country, which was hit hard by Covid-19, was still down by 0.3 per cent, reaching EUR 4.7 bn.
