Obi is testing a home delivery service in Moscow. To achieve this, Obi is working together with Sbermarket, a Russian online service provider which delivers food and non-food products to the home. Sbermarket is already active for more than 40 retailers, including the retail chains Metro, Auchan, Lenta and Yves Rocher who are active throughout the country. The delivery service is active in 144 cities and municipalities in Russia from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. Obi from Germany, according to the most recently available statistics (2020), is seen as the third largest DIY store chain in Russia.
Delivery of the Obi products is carried out directly from the branches and not from the central warehouse. During the initial period, the service is only possible from one business in the Aviapark shopping centre on Chodynsky-Boulevard. However the intention is to expand this delivery service over the course of time, says Russian media. Delivery should be carried out on the same day, but there should also be a two-hour service. However the prerequisite for this is the availability of couriers. These are able to transport up to 80 kg. Delivery is to be free of charge.
According to the media, Obi wants to continue to expand its cooperation with Sbermarket. Obi has been active in Russia since 2003. The retailer is currently active in Russia in 14 cities, in addition to Moscow, for example, also in St. Petersburg, Nischni Nowgorod, Jekaterinburg and Kasan.
