Retail under pandemic conditions

More and more customers in the US prefer curbside pickup

09.11.2020

In the retail sector in the USA, curbside pickup, requiring employees to take products out to customers in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, has developed into the preferred choice for an increasing number of consumers, and even in ahead of BOPIS (buy online, pickup in stores). These are the results of a study by Zebra Technologies, for which 104 executives operating 98 businesses of various types were surveyed; 20 per cent of the retailers (which was the largest group) were specialty hard goods retailers, which would include hardware stores and/or home centres.
Actually, some retailers did not let customers come into their stores, relying solely on curbside pickup policies to generate sales. 46 per cent of the retailers said they were managing expanded curbside pickup operations. In most cases, this required establishing new instructions for retailer websites, hiring more people to handle curbside deliveries and to set aside space so that customers could get their curbside pickups.
