DIY store sales in Germany grow to EUR 19.46 bn

DIY stores in Germany have raised their sales in the year 2019 by 3.6 per cent to EUR 19.46 bn. Over a comparable area they recorded an increase of 3.8 per cent. These figures, which are based on data from the market research company GfK, have been published by the German industry association BHB.
The highest sales were achieved with the assortments construction chemicals/construction materials (around EUR 2.02 bn) as well as sanitary/heating (EUR 1.80 bn). For the second time, the garden equipment assortment range maintained third place in the sales ranking (EUR 1.39 bn) before the tools segment (EUR 1.38 bn). The overall field of paint/painting supplies follows with total sales of EUR 1.27 bn.
Proportional gains of a total of 10.2 per cent over the entire year were recorded by the category garden chemicals/soils/seeds. Sales in the product group construction chemicals/construction materials rose by 6.9 per cent. The remaining sales winners: other (+6.5 per cent), wood (+5.8 per cent) and tools/machines/workshop equipment (+5.5 per cent).
Only two product groups had to record slight losses compared to the previous year: garden furniture lost around 3.5 per cent, the living and decorating range 2.1 per cent.
