US retail opposes Trump’s protective duties

Opposition to the new US President Donald Trump's tax plans is now also growing in American retail. More than 100 companies and associations have founded the movement Americans for Affordable Products (AAP) in order to take action against the planned Border Adjustment Tax (BAT). The AAP includes the retail associations from a large number of federal states, as well as trade associations and companies. The hardware industry is not represented until now, nor are any of the major DIY store operators. Amongst the companies involved are Walmart, Ikea and Sears.
They believe that if the duties were introduced, they would significantly hurt American consumers and the nation's largest employers by increasing the cost of everyday products by up to 20 per cent.
