Baumax transition complete

Leroy Merlin aims to become number two in Romania

06.10.2016

Leroy Merlin is targeting the number two slot in Romania after market leader Dedeman now that the Baumax stores acquired in 2014 have been converted. This is what country CEO Frédéric Lamy told the industry information service BricoRetail.ro. Up to September 2016 Leroy Merlin tripled the Baumax sales of 2013 (around € 100 mio), and sales should reach approx. € 380 mio by the end of the year. This figure would be € 20 mio more than Arabesque, the number two chain in Romania up to now.
Of the 15 Baumax stores taken over, twelve were converted to Leroy Merlin outlets and three were closed. Together with three stores of its own, the subsidiary of French outfit Groupe Adeo now operates 15 stores in Romania. Two new stores are scheduled to open in 2017. "Our target is to have 20 stores nationwide in the next three years," Lamy said.
