Germany is different

Germany is very different to lots of other countries when it comes to pets. That is according to a study by the GfK in 22 countries, in which 27 000 Internet users took part. It states that 47 per cent of Germans do not have a pet at all. That is more than the international average of 43 per cent. Particularly high, according to the GfK study, is the share of pet owners, above all in Latin America. Here both 80 per cent of the Argentinians and Mexicans and 75 per cent of the Brazilians have at least one pet. In contrast, considerably less pet owners than the average can be found in Asian countries. In Japan 63 per cent of those asked were pet abstainers, in Hong Kong this was 65 per cent and even 69 per cent in South Korea. In Europe the number of pet owners in the surveyed countries were less than in Germany in only Sweden (49 per cent) and Turkey (50 percent). The share of pet owners in Europe is highest in Russia (74 per cent), Poland (70 per cent) and Italy (67 per cent).
