Customers love self-scanning

09.08.2016

Self-checkout systems are now ready for market. However there is still only a limited offer in German retail - quite a contrast to many other European countries like the Netherlands, France, Scandinavia or Great Britain, where such services are already widely available. In Germany there are currently 300 to 310 stores with stationary self-service checkouts and only around 25 stores which offer mobile self-scanning.Although customer acceptance is high, as shown in a study by the market research institute EHI. It states that almost all users of self-scanning systems (99 per cent) were satisfied with the service; 70 per cent were even very satisfied. Consequently the users of self-scanning systems are very loyal: 61 per cent of them always use this service, and 36 per cent use it frequently. The largest group of self-scanning fans are the 30 to 39 year-olds, two thirds of which are customers who always or frequently use these systems. Those who pay by card have a fundamentally higher affinity to self-scanning systems than those who pay by cash.
