Stores located outside Hornbach's home market in Germany made a significant contribution to the company's growth in fiscal 2015/2016 (ended 29 February 2016). Sales in the company's DIY stores and garden centres (Hornbach Baumarkt AG) totalled € 3.535 bn, an increase of 5.3 per cent on the previous year. Like-for-like sales adjusted for exchange rate effects grew by 2.6 per cent.
The 99 Hornbach stores in Germany increased their sales in fiscal 2015/2016 by 2.3 per cent to € 2.011 bn, with like-for-like sales up by 0.8 per cent.
In the eight countries outside Germany in which the group operates, its DIY sales grew by 9.6 per cent to € 1.524 bn, due among other things to five new store openings. Adjusted for exchange rate effects, the like-for-like sales of the international Hornbach outlets grew by 4.9 per cent, meaning that they outperformed the stores in Germany on a comparable store area for the first time since fiscal 2008/2009.
The Hornbach Group as a whole, which operates builders' merchants as well as DIY stores, saw a rise in sales of 5.1 per cent to € 3.755 bn.
