Strong growth in Spain for Leroy Merlin

The chain belonging to Groupe Adeo increases sales by 6.7 per cent and plans new stores

The Leroy Merlin DIY chain increased its sales in Spain by 6.7 per cent in 2014 to € 1.607 bn. The 60 stores recorded 53 mio customer visits, a fifth more than in the previous year. This year the chain, which belongs to the French concern Groupe Adeo, intends to open five new stores, enlarge eight existing stores and modify 22 outlets. It is investing a total of € 110 mio in this. Between 2015 and 2019 the group plans to open 23 new stores in all, investing € 513 mio altogether.
Leroy Merlin currently stocks a range of 129 000 products in Spain, with this figure set to rise to 250 000 by 2018. 41 600 items are available in the online store. Sales transacted online rose by 63.6 per cent in 2014.
In a press release Leroy Merlin España has emphasised its bond with Spain. The company says that 73.3 per cent of its products, equivalent to a purchase sum of € 691 mio, are procured from Spanish manufacturers, and that it pays its tax – amounting to € 217.4 mio – entirely in Spain.
