Russian garden market grows

In the past volumes of USD 4.7 bn and strong growth rates

According to estimates made by the Discovery Research Group, the Russian garden and gardening technology markets achieved volumes amounting to USD 4.7 bn in 2013 and approximately USD 4.3 bn in 2012; corresponding to a growth of 9.3 per cent. The average annual purchase volume for gardening supplies per household is stated to be between USD 100 and USD 500. In comparison: In Western countries we speak of up to USD 2 000 yearly.
The garden is one of the Russians’ favourite pastimes. It’s said that 47 per cent of residents in north west Russia and 41 per cent in Moscow have a datcha, in the far east it’s a third but only 10 per cent in the Urals. In total, that’s 40 mio “gardening families”. The specialist trade journal DIY International gives a detailed report about the Russian garden market in its 1/2015 issue available at the end of January.
