The volume of China’s flower exports amounts to approximately RMB 3 bn

The 17th Hortiflorexpo IPM Shanghai takes place from 22 to 24 April 2015 in Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The event organiser, Intex Shanghai, announced that there will be country pavilions from Holland, Germany, France and Taiwan. Furthermore, they expect more than 400 exhibitors. The trade fair is regarded as being the biggest specialist fair for floriculture, horticulture and gardening in China.
In terms of cultivated land and flower harvest, China is the biggest producer of plants and flowers worldwide, the organisers explained. However, Intex calculates that the average value of the flowers harvested from a mu (around 667 m²), amounts to only RMB 6 000 to RMB 8 000. In contrast, the Netherlands, for example, has the equivalent of RMB 180 000 to RMB 200 000. The Chinese flower export volume is currently around RMB 3 bn, the equivalent of RMB 79 bn in the Netherlands.
