At the opening event, CEO of Obi Russia, Ian Strickland, praised the special characteristics of the store: Close to the city centre, with excellent transport links and currently a wide range of 25 services, which are constantly expanding.
The newly opened shopping centre Avia Park in the north west of the Russian capital has a catchment area of several million citizens. It is conveniently located between five metro stations near the city centre and lies only about seven km from the Kremlin. With its 230 000 m², Avia Park will be the largest shopping centre in Europe. Besides Obi, some of the main tenants include Media Markt, Zara, H&M, as well as the French SB department store Auchan. Some off the attractions include a 23 m high aquarium, an ice rink and a children’s town. The shopping centre will also get its own direct metro link in 2015.
