In France, the turnover of the two sales divisions, Castorama and Brico Dépôt declined in total by 9.3 per cent to GBP 1.064 bn (currency adjusted: -2.7 per cent, on a like-for-like basis: -4.0 per cent). The company assessed the market environment as difficult, due to an industry minus of around three per cent and a weak housing construction market.
On the other hand, Great Britain and Ireland recorded a plus of 4.8 per cent (currency adjusted 4.9 per cent) to GBP 1.148 bn; also a growth of 2.6 per cent remained stable on the same sales area. Screwfix has achieved an exceptional expansion, with a sales growth of 25.2 per cent (like-for like 13.1 per cent).
Business in the remaining countries has shrunk by 7.4 per cent to GBP 604 mio (currency adjusted +1.1 per cent, like for like -1.5 per cent). In detail, these are:
