Home Depot publishes further details about data theft in September

Home Depot has published the findings of the data theft in September. The hackers had stolen a supplier’s user name and password in order to gain access to the internal network. Although they didn’t gain access to the cash desk system, they managed to install a virus software in the self-checkout cash desks in the USA and Canada. As well as credit card details, they also carried off files with approximately 53 mio email addresses, but not any sensitive data.
