Russian DIY stores switch primarily to domestic and Chinese production sources
Russian DIY stores are doing just fine without imports from the West. That is the conclusion of a study by the consultancy firm Retailservices on the impact of western sanctions.
Russian media channels are focusing closely on the sanctions and the effects of Russian counter-measures on the domestic retail trade. While the food industry has been slow to make up for the lost imports, it’s a different picture in the DIY sector, according to the study by Retailservices. This indicates that the majority of DIY store goods ranges have already been satisfactorily covered by Chinese and Russian production sources. The study also presents detailed results for individual product groups.
General building materials: 80 to 85 per cent of dry mortar, timber panels and plasterboard, building timber and building chemicals are now produced in Russia.
Tools: 100 per cent from China (private labels or no-name brands)
Hardware, fasteners: 100 per cent from Russia
Lighting: China
Electrical materials: China, Russia and also Belarus
Carpeting: Iran, Russia, China, Turkey
Laminate: Russia and China
Parquet: Russia
